Tae-Sun Kim is a minority retention specialist with over 10 years of experience leading, advising and consulting on matters related to students of color at predominantly White institutions of higher learning. Her academic background and professional interests focus on the role of Whiteness and its impact on the collegiate experience of students of color. More specifically, she is interested in how White dominated spaces such as universities, residence halls, academic programs, or hiring practices can be manipulated or transformed to better retain and engage students of color. In her current position at Syracuse University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, she directs the WellsLink Leadership Program a co-ed and multicultural retention program for first-year students of color as well as leading retention efforts for Native American students, Asian Pacific American students, and first-year women of color.
Kim has presented and facilitated extensive workshops for, The Coast Guard Academy, The Korean American Adoptee Adoptive Family Network, Michigan State University, Lawrence University, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, NASPA Multicultural Institute , The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, The University of Michigan, and The University of Connecticut to name a few.
Tae-Sun Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Portland Oregon. She earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Michigan State University.
